Holding to Limiting Beliefs Can Hold You Back

What kind of excuses do you often tell yourself that is limiting in the way that you operate in the world? Often limiting beliefs are false beliefs, thoughts that you believe to be the truth no matter what. They typically have a strong negative impact on your life by preventing you from growing forward and moving towards a professional and personal level in life. Yet, if you continue to tell yourself these false realities, sooner or later they will become so ingrained in your mind that you will not be able to overcome them and move towards your goals. It is time to break these limiting beliefs out of your system and start moving towards the successful and fulfilling life you really want.

Perhaps the most common limiting belief is that you only deserve to make enough money for yourself or that you only deserve to be rich. There are two flaws with this belief. Firstly, it is incredibly limiting because it prevents you from enjoying all of the things that life has to offer. Secondly, the belief itself is incorrect. If someone else tells you that you only deserve to make enough money, then you’ve been convinced that is all there is to life, when in fact there are countless opportunities and experiences that can enrich your life and help you reach your dreams.

Another of the common limiting beliefs is that you only deserve success if you have already achieved success. The problem with this belief is that success only comes from taking small steps towards it isn’t something that builds up over time. If you only see the struggle and hardship of working hard at something and ignore any advantages you get from doing so, then you won’t see how you benefit from success either. People who hold this common limiting belief are usually in a positive mindset and don’t have much fear of failure. However, they need to learn how to focus on the positive aspects of every task instead of dwelling on the negative.

Some people think that changing careers will change their lives because they will feel less stressed, have more opportunities, and also move into a comfortable area of employment where they won’t have to worry about making the big bucks. However, these same people think that money comes from having a large salary, not having to deal with deadlines, and not having to deal with office politics. So when they are offered a new position with a company where they are guaranteed a good raise, they aren’t interested because they are focused on the stress levels, not the monetary benefits. This type of thinking is just backwards because when you start to change careers, you should be aiming to find something that you can do from home because you will have less pressure.

You may feel like it is your duty to go through schooling or training in order to become a doctor, lawyer, or even an engineer. While these are good fields to choose in order to get the skills and knowledge that you need for the world, you are perpetuating self-limiting beliefs. For example, you might feel that you should go to college because you will need all of these advanced skills in order to be competitive in the job market. However, if you choose to go back to school just so you can finish your undergraduate degree, you are making a self-limiting belief. Rather than seeing this as an opportunity for you to learn something new, you will only see it as an excuse to avoid doing what needs to be done in order to succeed.

In order to change your life, you have to understand that there are many limiting beliefs that you have around us. For example, you might have a belief that it is wrong to take time off of work after an engagement or marriage. Yet, when you look at statistics for most jobs today, the majority of companies are requiring time off in between engagements or marriages. If you continue to hold a belief that it is wrong, you will never be able to achieve the success you desire. You have to face the fact that you are not the only one holding that belief.

Instead of holding these beliefs, you should begin to focus on alternate beliefs that will help you reach your goals. For example, if you are a person who is very motivated, you might want to consider changing your belief that it is wrong to take time off of work. You might instead learn to embrace the idea that you cannot become a better employee if you do not give your full effort and focus. Once you learn to adopt new ideas, you will then begin to see success in many aspects of your life. As your focus changes from limiting beliefs around you to alternate beliefs, you will no longer be holding yourself back.

No matter how strong your belief may be, you should not hold it back. Just because you think that a particular belief is in conflict with your core beliefs does not mean that you should break the chain. You should learn how to break the chain so that you can go down the path that you desire to go on. Instead of reaching a point where you are holding yourself back by holding to limiting beliefs, you should now begin to learn how to let go and take the necessary steps to build your successful life.
