Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence – What is the Difference?

What is self-esteem? Well, it can be defined as the value we place on ourselves and our abilities. It is a general attitude we have about ourselves. The best definition I can give you is that self-esteem is our own personal evaluation of our own worth.

Self-worth and self-confidence are closely related. They are not the same thing though. Self-worth is an overall individual assessment of one’s worth to themselves and others. Self-confidence, on the other hand, is our ability to project confidence and our ability to deal with stress and adversity. It is the ability to maintain a healthy sense of self-confidence and a positive outlook in life.

Self-worth is related to what is known as the unknown area of the mind. What is the unknown area of the mind? It is the part of your mind that is not your conscious mind. When you were a baby you couldn’t even determine your own height. Your self-worth was in direct proportion to the feedback you were getting from others around you.

In order to build your high self-esteem human relations skills, you must become the kind of person that others want to be around. To do this you must work on building the kind of self-image that others see in you. When you have a good self-image, you will be able to build your high self-esteem.

Self-confidence and self-image are crucial if you are to build your high self-esteem. One way to help us build and keep our self-confidence is to take risks. Risk taking can be defined as taking an action that is unknown but which may well bring about some kind of reward. So, if you want others to take you as a role model than you have to take risks.

When we think negatively, we will tend to be more insecure and lower our self-worth. So it is important to eliminate negative self-talk and replace it with positive self-talk such as saying things like I am a confident and successful person, I am a great lover, I am extremely loyal, I am a friendly person and I will definitely go down that path that is leading me to where I want to go. People will start to take you more seriously if you consistently tell them that you are a confident and successful person.

A great source of extra self-belief is to find out what other successful people are doing that has had such an effect on your self-esteem. The best way to do this is to read books and articles by those that have gone through what you are going through. You will also find many successful people sharing their story in blogs and on forums. By listening to these stories and listening to the advice they give you will be able to pick up on many helpful techniques and ideas. One technique that many successful people use is to eliminate any excessive critical thinking from your mind and to replace it with more realistic and self-confident thinking.

It can be difficult to build your self-confidence and self-belief when you have low self-esteem or if you have been experiencing low self-confidence for a very long time. It can be very easy to get caught up in negative self-talk and to think that you are worthless and useless. In order to change your thoughts about yourself, you have to take the first step and break free of the cycle that is having an affect on your life. Changing your negative self-talk and replacing it with positive self-talk will have a lasting effect on how you view yourself and it will also have a lasting effect on your level of self-confidence.
