Self-Esteem Vs Ego – Is There Really a Way That We Boost Our Confidence and Self-Esteem?

The idea of comparing your self-esteem with your ego might seem a bit odd at first. After all, we are told that self-esteem is the foundation upon which all other success is based. Surely you have heard the saying, “What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” Well, according to this line of thinking, one’s self-esteem is nothing but a mental state or attitude toward one’s abilities and talents. And just as an individual’s state of mind can be influenced by thoughts, so too can his or her attitude about one’s abilities.

Now then, does this mean that someone who lacks self-esteem is actually lacking in abilities? Well, it would seem that this is what some psychologists would suggest. However, there are many others who would say that this is not the case at all. In fact, this is precisely why self-esteem is important; because it helps an individual to focus on his abilities. So what are some ways in which we can boost our confidence level?

First of all, I’d like to point out that although ego may not seem to have a very big impact on our lives, it sure can have a lot of negative impacts. When we allow ego to rule our lives, we will always feel as though we are drowning in a sea of disappointment and frustration. And this generally occurs when we are in a situation that is not going to help us move forward. For instance, if we feel as though our goals are unattainable, this will translate into a negative self-image. This can even lead to feelings of chronic discouragement and depression.

Therefore, in order to help ourselves get through any given challenge or obstacle, we need to learn how to control the way that we think. If we don’t, then we could find ourselves getting discouraged along the way. Therefore, learning effective communication skills, building self-confidence and the like is a great first step. There are many books and courses available that can help you learn these essential skills. However, there are also quite a few self-help programs that also include helpful self-esteem boosters.

A major part of building self-esteem is having a strong positive attitude – and not just a positive attitude about yourself, but a positive attitude about others as well. Many times we are so focused on our own inadequacies and weaknesses that we fail to see how worthy we really are of true success. This means that we must be willing to share with others our positive attributes – and this will go a long way in boosting our self-esteem.

Another thing that we can do is to surround ourselves with positive, supportive friends. The best way to boost our self-esteem is to surround ourselves with positive people who understand what we are doing and why we are doing it. It’s OK to have a few enemies – as long as they are grounded in reality and grounded in love, not criticism. But it’s also important to surround yourself with people who won’t rip us off or feed on our weaknesses. If we let them, then we’ll only be looking for reasons to criticize them and tear them down in our pursuit for success.

We also should surround ourselves with positive, supportive co-workers. We need to find those who are honest, open and kind. People who are hardworking and detail-oriented are also great companions. It’s OK to have some weaknesses – so long as they don’t become a reason to never move forward with our dreams. One of the biggest areas in having a healthy self-esteem vs. ego is to have goals that are achievable and realistic. If we are convinced that we are destined for greatness and have an immense amount of self-confidence, then it’s OK to dream about greatness, but it’s not OK to let our dreams fade because we think that someone else can take us where we want to go. Dreams are powerful. When we use our dreams as a road map to move toward our goal, then we are using the best method that there is to getting to our goal.
