Your Personal Development Series: The Importance of Self-Esteem

What is self-esteem? Self-esteem is your personal assessment of your own value. It is your sense of who you are and where you stand in your relationship to the rest of the world. Self-esteem covers various attitudes about oneself, including personal strengths and weaknesses, and general feelings about one’s personality, talents, abilities, talents and skills.

One of the most important facets of a healthy sense of self-esteem is a positive attitude or a positive outlook on life. The strong sense of self-confidence that comes with a positive attitude is the cornerstone of all of the positive attitudes and thoughts that we have about ourselves. A healthy sense of self-confidence can come from personal successes and also from achieving goals and ambitions in your chosen field of endeavor. A positive attitude is very infectious and once we’ve been given a “go” by someone or even when we are being criticized, our positive outlook in life just flows out of us naturally. This positive outlook lifts us up emotionally and causes us to believe that we can do it no matter what happens. It’s the kind of thing that we are really talking about when we talk about self-confidence.

Another aspect of a healthy level of self-esteem is self-compassion. Those who have higher levels of self-confidence and also a healthy level of self-compassion are able to accept criticism with an unbiased perspective. Criticism is part of growing as an individual and in order to grow to the fullest we have to accept criticism as a part of the learning process. We also learn from our failures and not to keep those failures bottled up inside us. We have to be open and honest with ourselves so that we can become better people.

A third important aspect of building self-esteem and building a positive self-image are self-talk. The way we talk to ourselves impacts how we feel about ourselves. Negative self-talk such as telling yourself that you are worthless, stupid, useless… these are words that hurt your self-image and they convince you to believe that way. Instead of dwelling on these thoughts, start thinking more positively and replacing these words with words like confident, hardworking, competent, and productive. Replace negative words with positive words and vice-versa. Once you’ve mastered this technique, you’ll find that your self-talk will change as well.

One of the most powerful aspects of building self-esteem lies in developing your self-image and improving your self-concept. The higher you can climb on the pedestal of your self-image and self-concept, the more likely you are to build a strong sense of self-worth and self-confidence. These two aspects of psychology are closely linked and if you want to have high self-esteem and a healthy self-image, both of these aspects of psychology are necessary.

One of the most important things you can do to build your healthy self-image and high self-esteem is to work on your self-image and self-concept consistently and to keep at it. To build a positive psychology and high self-esteem, you need to make sure that you are doing all you can to improve yourself and to constantly push yourself towards making positive changes to your life, so that you are improving and becoming a better you day by day. It’s going to be important that you make a real effort to work on these two aspects of psychology. Without either of these, no matter what happens within your life, you won’t be able to build a healthy and stable self-image and high self-esteem.

One of the best ways to get your self-image and self-concept up is to make sure that you are surrounded by people who reinforce your positive attitude toward life, toward being happy, and toward having high self-esteem. This is perhaps the single most important aspect of psychology and self-help that anyone can ever learn. Without having an environment that is full of support and people who reinforce your positive attitude toward life, it will be very difficult for you to change your attitude and your self-image. To have a higher self-image and higher self-esteem, it will also be important for you to develop your sense of humor and your ability to make fun of yourself and other people when they go out and put on a negative attitude. When you go out and have fun with your sense of humor, you will find that it helps to make you more comfortable with all sorts of different people and situations, as well as with yourself.

Finally, having a sense of self-worth is related to having an attitude toward life that is optimistic rather than one that is overly critical. People who have a high level of self-worth and a healthy self-image tend to be much more confident in the things that they do and they also tend to have a better attitude about the world around them. In addition to having a healthy self-image and self-esteem, it will also be important for you to let go of some of the negative beliefs and attitudes that you have about yourself and about life in general. The old idea that being successful means being right is one way that many people keep themselves stuck in a poor self-image or low self-esteem.
