Limiting Beliefs – Overcoming Your Self Talk

There are many limiting beliefs that hold people back from reaching their full potential and happiness. Some of these beliefs are quite harmful and have an adverse affect on your mental state. The belief that “I can not do that” or that “That will never work” is a limiting belief. Here are seven ways to get rid of these beliefs and improve your self-confidence level:

First, you must understand that there are some things in life that just plain do not exist. The reality of this is that the things that do not exist in your life are what you make of them. If you cling to ideas like that, then they will be controlling your life and preventing you from achieving the things that you want to achieve in life. Therefore, any limiting beliefs that you have will need to be replaced with more optimistic and helpful ones.

Second, if you are not enjoying what you are doing right now, stop doing what you are doing and go do something else. Stop seeing the glass half full or half empty. It is a common human tendency to resist doing the things that cause us pain and discomfort. However, if you believe that you are doing those things incorrectly, you will continue doing them. This is not a good way to live, so get out there and enjoy your life!

Third, if you have a lot of limiting beliefs and you feel like you are drowning in them, it may be time to take a look at them. Do you really believe them? Have you ever honestly tried your best to perform something well but failed? You should have the ability to look at your performances objectively. If you are holding yourself back because of these limiting beliefs, then it is time for you to start searching for more supportive beliefs and new thoughts that will allow you to achieve your goals.

Fourth, do not expect miracles overnight. Just because you had success the last time and you feel that you can do it this time does not mean that you will be successful the first time. You have to realize that no matter how hard you try, things will only get better over time.

Fifth, before you begin to seek to change your limiting beliefs, you need to decide why you are holding yourself back. Are you afraid? Or are you simply unwilling to look at your beliefs and ask them to go away? When you know what it is that you are fearful of you will be better able to confront them.

As you can see, it is not easy to completely change your limiting beliefs. However, you can start on the right foot and work toward changing your negative patterns. Remember, it took you some time to develop these beliefs, so do not expect instant results. However, if you persist in working on your beliefs and overcoming them, eventually you will be able to live a confident and happy life. Then, maybe after a few more trials you will finally reach the point where you are willing to let go of those limiting beliefs and transform into a new and positive YOU!
